PHOTOGRAPHY

Course: AS and A2

Exam board: WJEC

Entry Requirements:Preferably a background in Art at GCSE and/or Media Studies, as well as a degree of experience using a camera and Adobe Photoshop . There will be limited places on the course; prospective students need to show a dedication and interest in photography to be considered.Creativity and imagination when responding to a set brief is a must, as well as the ability to work to short and strict deadlines.

 It is advised, and will be highly advantageous if all candidates own their own digital SLR camera.

Course Description:

Students will produce their own online portfolios which will include their photography and visual creativity, plus diagrams, art history, thoughts and experimentations centred around their ideas.  It will also show research, planning and explanation, as well as illustrate an understanding of the work of others.

The types of skills which the student will develop include:

  • Compositions and depth of field including portrait and landscape disciplines
  • Independent work on location and in a studio.
  • Digital image manipulation via software packages such as Adobe Photoshop
  • The use and manipulation of light
  • An understanding of the work of other photographers and filmmakers through written annotation
  • An encouragement to experiment and explore their own creativity
