Percentage of students obtaining a place at top universities

Lampton Sixth Form has been highly successful in helping students to secure places at the most competitive universities, and on the most competitive courses – in October 2017 six students will be starting in Cambridge and Oxford, joining an ever growing cohort of Lampton graduates either at these universities or studying Medicine or Dentistry.

To ensure that students are given the best possible chance to achieve a place, they are supported in a range of ways:

Exceptional Scholars Programme

This unique and bespoke course is an elite training programme that will support Lampton’s most academically aspirational students in their pursuit of places at the country’s most selective universities and employers.

The programme facilitates the development of skills that top universities and employers demand from students:
• Analysis and evaluation
• Problem solving
• Debate, discussion and high level verbal communication
• Logical, careful and critical thinking
• High level academic literacy

The programme supports students as they work to develop and extend these high-level, vital skills, through a variety of different learning opportunities. Furthermore, the programme supports those candidates who will be sitting the BMAT (Med/VetMed, Dentistry), UKCAT (Med/VetMed) and LNAT (Law) examinations.

Highly Competitive Course Coordinator

All applying for the most competitive course (those at Cambridge, Oxford, or on Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science programmes are supported by the Highly Competitive Course Coordinator, Mrs Lewis. Mrs Lewis has built up expertise in supporting students through the challenges of applying for these courses, and meets with students both as a group and 1:1 to provide advice and guidance to ensure that all students are best prepared. This includes support with writing an outstanding personal statement, coordinating teacher references, supporting students in their wider reading, ensuring that students are entered for, and fully prepared for the rigours of extra admissions tests such as the BMAT, UKCAT, LNAT, PAT and the proliferation of subject focused tests at Oxford and Cambridge. Students are also given extensive coaching and practice for the crucial interviews by subject specialists.

Trips and visits

Each year the Sixth Form runs trips to Oxford and Cambridge, both for all students interested in applying, and for subject or college specific taste days or masterclasses. These give an essential insight into the student experience. We also host speakers from both universities, helping to give more awareness of the rigours of the application process.
